Friday Randomness

Enjoy this Friday Flashback while you read!

* STAY TUNED FOR NEXT WEEK'S EDITION OF FLASHBACK FRIDAY *

Four words - pants on the ground. If you were like the other thousands of people that caught the first round of American Idol auditions, you also fell in love with 63-year-old General Larry Platt of the song "Pants on the Ground". He had me cracking up and I just had to hear this song over and over again. It's so catchy! It's so hard to believe that since Wednesday there have been several remixes created of his song. Who'd thunk it?! Click here for all the remixes and below is his orignal audition.

Friday Randomness

Today is a slow day at work for a change. I have been quite the busy bee for the past month so it is nice to have one down day, especially on a Friday. So I'm blogging about random things on my mind because, well, that's how my mind works. Just the other day I was changing E's diaper in his room while Chris was on the computer in our office when I yelled out "What about painting the laundry room a nice shade of moss green?" Then from the other room I hear a noise that sounds like an airplane flying across the air. That was Chris imitating how my thoughts come to me - like they're just taken out of thin air. I then proceeded to explain the train of thought all the while thinking to myself, "I am so random".

Ok - so Lost is coming back on in less than a month - February 2nd. Yea! I just read an article this morning that it's POSSIBLE that Prez Obama will have the State of the Union address ON THIS SAME DAY! Has he gone completely insane!? He clearly is NOT a Lost fan and for what reason I do not know. I'll tell ya right now there will be alot of really upset Losties. I think I will be writing to the White House today! Read the article here.

I found this blog from my friend Lindsay's blog. It's called Things I Want To Punch In The Face. It's hilarious and it'll certainly brighten your day. I will warn you the blogger curses frequently but once you get past that, it is so funny. A favorite is Pajamas as Outerwear. Classic.

Where's the snow?

We have had two friends have babies this week, and another due in a month or so, so that means I'll be parked in front of the stove cooking up a storm. When we had Ethan our small group from the church brought us all kinds of goodies and meals that lasted for two weeks. We were so thankful and I want to pass that on. The last thing you want to do after you have a baby is cook. Just call me Martha! Anyone have any good recipes that can be frozen?

Also, to liven up the blog a bit I've decided to have Flashback Friday, if I can keep it up. A radio station that I listen to occasionally has this on Fridays and I am always jammin' on my way with oldies but goodies. So with that said... ENJOY! Happy Friday!

* MUSIC HAS BEEN TAKEN OUT - LOOK FOR NEXT FLASHBACK FRIDAY NEXT WEEK! *

Cha-Ching!

I am starting the year off right! Harris Teeter started their Super Doubles (doubling coupons up to $1.99 in face value) today and I stopped by this morning on my way into work (and on my lunch break) to see what deals I could snag, and snag them I did! When I pulled into the parking lot it was a sea of mini-vans. If you don't know what that means, let me translate. It means every stay-at-home mom is in there shopping with their kids taking all the good stuff! (I thought you'd laugh at that Abbie) I knew I wouldn't get much, but I actually did pretty well. Here's a summary of what I got, spent and saved:

  • 4 boxes of Electrosol dishwasher detergent - $1.96 (Thanks to the awesome $2.50 coupon from this past Sunday and a BOGO sale!)
  • 2 bottles of Heinz Ketchup - 30 cents
  • 4 cans of Lysol wipes - FREE (BOGO)
  • 2 bottles of Arm & Hammer Detergent - $3.79
  • 4 boxes of Special K breakfast bars - FREE, plus a $1.04 money maker ($5 off instantly promotion plus coupons)
  • 5 bottles of Cranberry Juice -$3.78 (77 cents each - Chris LOVES it)
  • And a few other good deals that aren't worth blogging about but were pretty good!

Total Spent $24.77
Total Saved $105.63
(Includes BOGO, sales and coupons)

I was so excited! Here's to a year full of blog-worthy savings. Now I can't wait for triples.

Goodbye 2009 ... Hello 2010

Has a year gone by already ... really? As I sit here at work, by myself, in the silence, for a half day thank goodness, I'm thinking about what last year held for us. As I think back, I come up with all these thoughts and I feel so blessed:

During these tough times of a recession we are blessed to still have a job.
Despite an occasionally ear infection or stomach bug, we are all alive and healthy.
God has led us to a new church. We finally feel like we are home.

We have amazing family and friends who love us for exactly who we are - good, bad and ugly.

I'm not going to make any New Year's resolutions that I know I can't keep. The older I get the more I realize there is no purpose for these resolutions when you know they don't last long. No Amanda, you will never have a body like Heidi Klum so stop dreaming. Instead, we are making personal goals for bettering ourselves - both inside and out.

I'll strive to trust in God for what is best for myself and my family. I'll keep thinking positive thoughts and know that God has a plan for myself and my family.

As the clock ticks towards midnight tonight, I'll be snuggled up to my sweetie pie (probably already sleeping soundly) with a glass of champagne in hand and I'll be thanking God for all the wonderful and amazing things He has done for us this year. Here's to a wonderful 2010 with even better memories than 2009 held! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Say A Little Prayer For Me

When all you sweet friends are settling in for the night say a little prayer for me and my family. The only reason I'm writing this post tonight is to get some stuff out and put it on a safe outlet where only friends and family read this blog. Without getting into too much, I have been going though some rough patches the past couple of weeks and it's starting to affect me more than emotionally. It's enough to make me so anxious that I've been having chest pains and knots in my stomach. I've been one to look at the glass half full but sometimes life just beats you down so much that that glass starts to empty slowly. There is only so much a person can fake a smile until the dam breaks and you just break down. There is a lot that's on my mind and heart and I'm praying about how to deal with some of it in a Christian manner. Easier said than done! So if my posts seem few and far between, I'll come around one day. I just don't have as much light hearted and fun things to talk about except my wonderful family, sweet friends and my relationship with God, in which I'm feeling more drawn to through some of these difficult times. I am grateful to the ones who have listened to me and really care about me. Your tenderheartedness will never be taken for granted. Thanks for listening and don't forget about that little prayer! I love you all.

On a positive note, I am looking forward to a wonderful Christmas with my family and Ethan turning two. God has certainly blessed our family and I could not be more grateful.

Gobble Gobble

In the spirit of my most favorite holiday, I've been thinking of all the numerous things I am thankful for in life!
  • Our wonderful Saviour from which nothing in life is possible or good
  • My funny, warm and endearing husband. He makes life intriguing, fun and exciting every day
  • My amazing son whom I am so lucky to be his mother. I am so blessed to be able to watch him grow and prosper every single day.
  • My wonderful family on both sides
  • My friends, especially those who love me exactly for who I am, nerdy and all
  • My crazy and hair-brained puppy - she makes life sweet
  • My health - I take it for granted quite often and I'm so glad that I am healthy
  • All the yummy food at Thanksgiving. I could eat it over and over again - wait I already am!
  • All the cool things in life - Starbucks coffee, Glee, Twilight Saga ... the list could go on and on

New Moon Premiere - REPOST with pictures!

I am just now getting around to writing this because I've been catching up on sleep for the past three days! Man - I didn't realize how much it would take me to recover from staying up all night practically. It's brutal! I guess that 30 year old birthday is creeping up on me! Anyways ... on to our big night!

All of us girls met at Steak & Shake for a late night bite at 8:30 and then headed over to the movie theatre by 9:30. We were so sure there would be a long line but there wasn't! We were so surprised. We stopped to take a few cheesy pictures by the movie poster with Team Edward and Team Jacob, and a group picture. Yes, I felt slightly corny doing it but I was glad I wasn't the only one just brimming with excitement. We were all as giddy as teenage school girls! A girl took our ticket stubs and told us we could go ahead and sit in the hallway. We were the very first to sit in line at 10 PM! I brought some cards so we could play but we didn't get around to it because we were chatting the entire time. They let us in at 11 PM to get in our seats and we were able to get the best spot in the theatre - smack dab in the middle row in the middle of the screen! I was so psyched! It was exciting because as soon as 12:01 hit people started clapping. It was so much fun! I think they were messing with us because the movie didn't officially start until 12:10. Ahhh torture! As soon as the trailers were done and the movie started rolling - it was on! Girls were screaming and their boyfriends were covering their ears. I felt bad for them! :) The movie was over at 2:30 AM and I was in the bed by 3:30 AM. Leave it up to Ethan to decide to start his day at 5:30 AM, hence me getting only two hours of sleep. Now you know why I put off writing this blog!

Team Jacob - Carrie all by her lonesome!

Team Edward!

First in line!

As for the movie, it was awesome! It was better than I imagined it to be, and it was better than Twilight, and I loved Twilight. Probably because of the bigger budget and GCI on the werewolves. I was a little nervous about how that was going to come across, but it was so great! It stayed very true to the book and that made me very happy. I loved that there were quite a few lines from the book spoken in the movie. I knew what was coming next which was great! I could go on and on and on, but if you haven't seen it (and want to see it) and you're reading this, I'll go ahead and say * SPOILERS AHEAD *. I found this article on the differences between the movie and the book that I thought was so true and interesting. Of course you non-Twilight lovers will not find this interesting, but the rest of us cool people will! ;)

More Shirtless Boys

We all hoped to get a glimpse of Edward's alabaster chest in Volterra, but who knew we'd get to see so much hot werewolf skin? Thankfully, the Wolf Pack run such high temperatures and explode away their clothes so frequently that cut-off jeans and no shirt are their shared ensemble of choice.
We get more fights, including an awesome Volturi throw down

New Moon the book is infamous for its slow pacing, thanks to Bella's crippling depression (see below). So it's a good thing that the film throws in fistfights, wolf skirmishes, and chase scenes to liven things up a bit more. Our favorite: watching Volturi guard Felix put the smack down on our precious Edward, a scene crafted for the film.

Instead of talking to herself, Bella sends emails to Alice

New Moon, like all of the Twilight books, makes frequent use of Bella's internal voice-overs to tell us what's going on in that angsty head of hers. In New Moon, Bella writes emails to her lost BFF, Alice, to work through her issues. We still get the voice-overs, but they're cleverly disguised as Bella's messages to Alice, and therefore much less "Vampire Diaries." (Also, creating a movie email address for Alice was a clever way to sneak in product placement for Apple's MobileMe email application.)

Bella's (a little) less mopey than she is in the books

Much of the book is devoted to Bella's heartbreaking, months-long break-up depression, so it's a good thing that the film condenses her lost period a bit for the sake of storytelling. Critics complain already that Bella spends so much time staring into space, pining over Edward; if only they knew how much more we/she suffer in the books! Thankfully, Rosenberg's script snaps Bella out of her funk and moves on, sort of, in a relatively short span of time.

Bella's months-long depression, in the blink of an eye

Fans were wondering how Chris Weitz would treat the infamous "lost" months of Bella's depression, which are depicted by blank pages in the book. After all, October, November, December, and January fly by as voids of nothingness to the girl. Weitz and Rosenberg's solution? A clever scene where Bella sits listless in front of her window as the camera moves around her to show the changing seasons outside. The trick captures her melancholia and is perfectly punctuated by Lykke Li's haunting, wistful track, "Possibility."

Edward doesn't hide Bella's photos

In the book, when Edward decides to break up with Bella and leave town, he also sneaks into her room and hides her photos of him so that she'll have no reminders at all that he existed – a complete and total abandonment. (Can you imagine a world without pictures of RPattz? It would be horrible, indeed.) In the film, we see him in her room, but there's no messing with photographs, which would have been an unnecessary minor plot point anyway. Plus, those folks who think Edward's a little stalker-like might have been even more creeped out by him rifling through her stuff. Instead, we get the full impact of Edward's absence in Bella's misery.

Jacob gives Bella a dream catcher

One new scene in the film has Jacob giving Bella a dream catcher for her birthday, killing two birds with one stone in the process: giving her a present when Edward feels he cannot and putting the mack on her with a big bear hug right in front of Edward. Bella hangs the dream catcher above her pillow, but unfortunately for her, it doesn't help keep the nightmares away.

Bella goes for a bike ride at One Eyed Pete's

Bella's attempt to put herself out there by going to Port Angeles with Jessica takes a dangerous (and hilarious) turn when she accepts a ride with a burly, beefy biker in order to hang on to her visions of Edward. In the book, she stops short of hopping on the chopper, but in the film she takes a full-on joyride with a stranger. How boring would it have been if she'd just turned around and walked back to safety?

More snarky Anna Kendrick

Besides giving Bella her very first brush with danger, the biker scene serves another purpose: letting Anna Kendrick shine. As Jessica, Kendrick once again steals every scene she's in, and Bella's foolish biker episode gives her some of her very best frenemy lines of dialogue. Bonus: Kendrick's blissfully ignorant snark attack on zombie movies.

Two words: Face Punch

In addition to the zombie genre, New Moon has a little something to say about stupid action flicks. One of the best additions to the script involves Bella, Mike Newton, Jacob, and a popular (fake) blockbuster movie entitled Face Punch. (Tagline: "Let's DO this!")

Visions of RPattz dance in Bella's head

While Bella's hallucinations of Edward in the books are purely auditory, there's no way that would fly in the film. So Weitz injects plenty of pretty Rob Pattinson shots throughout the entire duration of Edward's absence, scrumptious visions that come and go like wisps of smoke. And really, there's tons of RPattz bookmarking New Moon, so we don't miss him all that much. (What am I saying? There's always room for more RPattz!)

Victoria is definitely in the water

When Bella is drowning after cliff-diving in New Moon, we clearly see Victoria swimming toward her in the water right before Jacob pulls her out of the water – something that was hinted at, but kept ambiguous, in the books. We like it better this way, as it makes Bella's danger more present and, let's be real, gives Rachelle Lefevre a little more to do, considering that she has exactly zero lines in the whole movie.

Bella hits Paul in the face

In a film packed with phasing wolves and marble-cracking vampire fights, it's nice to see Bella get a little action. Angry that they've brainwashed her beloved Jacob, Bella confronts the Wolf Pack, shoves Sam Uley, and smacks Paul right in the kisser! Sure, it seems a little out of character, but at least in this moment, Bella is an agent of action and not merely reacting to the people around her. Plus, it leads into Paul's transformation and Jacob's mid-air phase, and the huge revelation of the Quileute secret.

Carlisle's Volturi painting comes to life

Instead of waiting ‘til the end to meet the Volturi, we get an early peek at them when Carlisle's painting comes to life as Edward explains their history to Bella. Thank goodness! It would be such a waste to have even less of Aro & Co. in New Moon than the brief sequence we already get.

Victoria attacks Harry Clearwater

While tracking the Wolf Pack – and slyly covering their footprints – Harry Clearwater suffers a fatal heart attack in the woods. But in the film, we see that Harry's heart attack comes from the shock of being attacked by Victoria, who is seen stalking Charlie's hunting party from up in the trees. The change here allows plot points to converge, as the ensuing wolf pursuit of Victoria runs parallel to Bella's fateful cliff-jump into the ocean. And again, it gives Rachelle Lefevre something to do.

New Moon has way more funnies

Credit Rosenberg for injecting more sly humor into New Moon, which was especially necessary in this installment. Supporting humans like Jessica, Mike, and Charlie add levity to their scenes with the somber Bella, while more subtle winks, like the comparison of werewolfiness to a "lifestyle choice" and Bella's transatlantic ride aboard a Virgin Atlantic airplane, display a self-aware sense of humor.
Jacob and Bella almost kiss. Twice

New Moon is Jacob's movie, so Rosenberg rewards him with not one, but two almost-kisses. If you look closely, their lips ACTUALLY TOUCH the second time!

Jacob and Edward face off in the woods – just not when you expect

If you've read New Moon, you're already expecting the tense "treaty" discussion between Jacob and Edward. Rosenberg wisely juggles the timeline a bit, placing it before the key conclusion (see #19), and adds one last phase for the furious Jacob. (It's the closest Bella's two men come to blows in New Moon.)

Edward proposes

Rosenberg saves the best for last, leaving Bella (and us) with the biggest possible cliffhanger. Again, the re-jiggered placement of the scene works better cinematically, and leads into the next film, Eclipse!

Alice's vision

When Aro "sees" Alice's vision of the future, he lets her, Edward, and Bella go with the knowledge that sometime soon, Bella will become a vampire. As a special treat, the film shows us Alice's vision of Edward and Bella running through the woods (alas, in giggle-worthy outfits and slow motion). But after the snickers die down, think about exactly what you are seeing and you'll realize that it's essentially a preview of sorts… of something with the initials B and D!

That said, there are a couple of changes that don't work so well. Jacob's mood swing in the theater and subsequent threat of physical violence to poor Mike Newton seems incredibly out of character. Later in the film when the phone rings in Bella's kitchen, Jacob definitely knows it's Edward on the phone (as opposed to thinking it's Carlisle as in the book), which makes him more of a jerk.

K!

I've been meaning to write about this very cute incident since Sunday night but I've been slammed at work (yea - the market may be turning around) so I haven't had a bit of time. Now I'm sitting down at the computer to relax for a bit. It's a short story so don't expect a lot ...

Sunday afternoon we headed up to Toys R Us for a bit of early Christmas shopping. Afterwards we were right across from the mall so we decided to go there for dinner. In conversation with Chris, I asked if he wanted to go to Barnes and Nobles, but I said the bookstore. That must have rung a bell in Ethan's head because as I was carrying him he literally took both of his cubby little hands and put them on both sides of my face, looked me in the eyes and said "Choo choo mama? K!". I just laughed! I thought it was hilarious because that is EXACTLY what I do to him when he won't listen to me. I slow him down by putting my hands on his face, look him in the eye and ask him a question with "OK" on the end. Wow how they learn fast!

Pumpkin Carving Tradition

About eight years ago, we started a pumpkin carving tradition with our friends Ben and Susan. This was way back in the day when Chris and Ben were roommates living on Baylor Drive. We continued to have our yearly carving tradition year and year after. We even added making goodies like caramel apples and elephant ears to the festivities. Then life got in the way and life got hard and busy at times. But things got better and we were able to rejoin! I was trying to dig up pictures from previous years but never got around to it. Fast forward to 2009 and we decided to revive the tradition once again! Last week Ben and Sue came over and brought 4 week old Benjamin Patrick. It was so cool to see Ethan interact with Benjamin. He was so sweet to him - rocking him in the car seat, patting him on the head and calling him baby. I think he's ready for a big brother or sister don't you? :) Below are only two pictures that we took but there's also a link to the pictures that Susan took of the two boys. So cute!

Benjamin Patrick

Here's our final product! GO PANTHERS! Right about now though, I'd love to smash this pumpkin into a million pieces!

Memories of Granny

My mom has put together a few blogs on her site in memory of my late Granny that passed away on Sunday. It's so wonderful to go back and remember all the good times growing up. I will always remember the good times. Check out how much I look like my mom when she was young. It's crazy!

Perfect People

Don't you just love it when a certain song just hits the sweet spot of what you're going through in life? At church we've been on a 40 day journey called What If... that has focused on so many things that people struggle with every single day. It's also about being missionary to those who don't have a relationship with God and reaching deep down and doing what's outside your comfort zone in helping others in the community. I've also struggled with a personal issue my entire life with being concerned about what people think about me and me trying to live up to those incredible standards. I feel like since we have been attending NRCH I have felt God move in my heart in ways I have never felt before and it's amazing. It makes you want to shout from the rooftops! This journey has also made me realize that no matter what you go through with whether it's with family or friends, work, or anything else, I should not be discouraged because God loves me and accepts me no matter what. I had a Ah-ha moment (ya know - like Oprah has) and realized why waste time sulking in disappointments from everyday life when you can just sigh and take everything with a grain of salt. That's what God's love does to you and the change in your heart is just indescribable. Pastor Ruppe has been talking about this for weeks and it wasn't setting in until now. I certainly am a work in progress but I feel the change every single day and for that I am so thankful. I am one to admit when I've done wrong and strive to do the best I can every day, but we all falter and make mistakes from time to time. I was driving to work today and heard this song by Natalie Grant called Perfect People and I just had to hear it over and over again because it is so true. Especially the chorus:

Never let em' see you when you're breaking
Never let em' see you when you fall
That's how we live and that's how we try
Tell the world you've got it all together
Never let them see what's underneath
Cover it up with a crooked smile
But it only lasts for a little while
There's no such thing as perfect people
There's no such thing as a perfect life
So come as you are
Broken and scarred
Lift up your heart
And be amazed
And be changed
By a perfect God
Suddenly it's like a weight is lifted
When you hear the words that you are loved
He knows where you are and where you've been
And you never have to go there again

Who lived and died to give new life
To heal our imperfections
So look up and see out let grace be enough
Be changed by a perfect God
Be changed
It just made me realize I can go to a place where God is and feel the acceptance. I am so thankful for his mercy and grace every day and I pray that I continue to grow. Now ya'll are probably reading this thinking - has the girl gone nuts?! Why is she sharing her innermost thoughts with the world!? That's what this love does for you! Just makes you want to share it with everyone you know and love! I have always been one to be corny and wear my heart on my sleeve so there ya go! :) Thanks for reading and spending your time with me, or my blog really! If I don't tell you or get to see you and hug your neck, I want you to know I love you and cherish the relationship I have with you.

Why Didn't I Think Of This?!

As much as I like to dance, I wish we would have thought about this! A couple of years after our wedding the trend was going around for the bride and groom to nix the traditional slow first dance and do a choreographed fun dance. I was so jealous that I didn't think of that! I was also mad at my sister and Tim that they didn't go through with their plan to do that at their wedding. Then, this YouTube video came out of yet another creative idea to do it for the ceremony processional instead!

THEN, on The Office last night, Pam and Jim got married, and it was in their wedding! It was SO funny I was just rolling! You have to check this out if you didn't catch it last night! It's sure to put you in a good mood and it's a great way to start your weekend! Enjoy! (If the video doesn't show up, try the link below - it was acting funny!)

Look at all this stuff!

This is all the stuff I've gotten so far at the consignment sales I've been going to! It may not look like $200 worth, but here's the break down:

  • set of wooden table and two chairs
  • John Deere lawnmower (which E loves)
  • two Elmo books
  • 14 shirts
  • 2 pj sets
  • 5 sweaters/pullovers
  • 10 pants
  • 3 jackets (from light to heavy)
  • 1 pair of shoes
  • 1 winter hat
  • 6 pairs of white socks
  • 4 sunglasses (sounds like a lot, but they came in one bag; i just liked two of them)
I feel like I've really gotten a good bit of deals so I'm very excited! The most expensive item was of course the set of table and chairs at $50, but I liked it so much I couldn't resist! I think I'm pretty much set on his fall/winter wardrobe with an exception to a couple more pairs of shoes, pj's and more books and toys. Plus, we still have clothes that still fit him and can go through into the fall! I have so much fun at these sales it's so hard to resist getting a shirt that's even $2 when he probably doesn't even need it. It's like finding a treasure in the midst of a haystack!

Yet another tasty treat ...

... this delicious treat came to us via the MTV Video Awards last night. I pretty much sat with the TV on in the background muted while I read. Once I saw the they were presenting the NEW OFFICIAL TRAILER for New Moon, I was happy. Enjoy! Only 66 more days to go!

What A Weekend

We had a busy weekend, but a wonderful one all the while! Friday afternoon we had an appointment at the ENT. We received good news in the fact that his ears look great BUT still have fluid in them. Dr. Abrams, who is wonderful by they way, talked a bunch of mumbo jumbo medical jargon. The long and short of it is that we could let it be for a while since he currently does not have an infection OR we could nip it in the bud and go ahead with tubes. He left the decision in our hands and said we couldn't make a bad decision - either was fine. He did say since E got the infections in the middle of the summer, it's pretty much guaranteed that he was going to get a few more come cold and flu season. We decided to forgo the tubes for now and see how things look in 6 weeks, which is when we have a check up with him. Dr. Abrams was AWESOME with Ethan and he didn't cry at all! He was such a trooper. He was so good, we treated him to PW's ice cream! I wish I could upload the picture I took of him on my cell phone. It was too cute with the ice cream just dripping down his face! He was so happy!

Also Friday night, The Ledfords came over to hang out. We had dinner, let the kids play and then Carrie and I scrapped while Chris and Adam played XBox and watched football. It was such a fun night and of course as always, I have a lot of fun with my Carayray. Here's some pics of the babies playing. They trip me out. Ethan loves being chased by anyone, so when Kaitlyn started crawling after him, he got so tickled!

Saturday E and I drove down to Columbia to visit with my KWH girls. KWH stands for Kate Wofford Hall which is where I was a RA (Resident Assistant) at Winthrop for two years. The KWH girls are all of us on the staff, including our Resident Director. We had such a good time together in college and made lots of fun memories. These girls were such important part of my life then and still now. Fast forward five years and now we are all married and have children. Crazy! We try to get together every now and then to catch up and now we can let the kids play. We met up at Melissa's house in Lexington around 11 and stayed until 3:30. The kids played together so well and pulled every single toy and book off the shelves. I felt bad that the house was trashed that much! I think E was to blame for most of that. I even caught him playing in the kitty litter three times! GROSS! He's just a curious little monkey. The kids, ages 1 to 3, literally wore themselves out! E didn't sleep a wink on our trip down there so as soon as we got in the car, he passed out!

Sunday was awesome. We have been laying low for the past two months in finding a church that we can call home. Our last church was wonderful and we loved it dearly. I know I've blogged about this before but it was just starting to not work for us as a couple and a family. We've heard so much about North Rock Hill Church and finally decided to check it out last week. This was our second week and I was really excited to go. (Side story - we woke up Sunday morning rushing around because we BOTH thought it was Monday morning! After getting E up and feeding him breakfast, I looked at the calendar on the wall and thought, wow - we missed church yesterday AND the meeting we were planning to attend Sunday night - how did that happen? I was so disoriented and confused! Then it clicked that it WAS Sunday - I went and told Chris while he was in the shower. We both just laughed!) We really like the church and what they stand for. I can't begin to explain how good it feels to get back into a church that "hits the nail on the head" on how you worship and have a relationship with God. It's been quite a while since I've felt this way and I have a good feeling about this church. The pastor is awesome and funny and witty and I can relate to his messages so well. We attended an informational class called Discover last night. It was basically an informal gathering that told us about the church, how they started, their values, and how to get involved. We got a lot out of it and it makes me even more excited about the church. We really need to get in with a small group, but we are not ready to take that plunge quite yet. We're going to keep going every week and praying about it to see where God wants us to be. The most important thing for me as well is getting into a good children's program for Ethan. He is learning so much now and is quite a sponge just soaking it all in. I want him to learn and grow in a church where he can learn about Jesus. That makes me so excited for him and I hope and pray this is the place to be.

So there's our weekend in a nutshell! Oh yeah one more quick story. hee hee I went to the Winthrop Bookworm Friday after the ENT visit and picked up a few items. Note to self - don't go to the Bookworm right before classes start and the students are picking up their books! The line was out the wazoo! I found a really cute stuffed monkey that has the Velcro at the hands and feet with a WU t-shirt on. I used to have a monkey like that so I wanted to get it for E. I looked at the price tag and it said "no value", maybe because the t-shirt was ripped a little. When I was checking out, I asked what the "no value" meant and if I could get a discount. The sales lady just gave it to me on the house! Yea! It pays to ask right? So now, Ethan LOVES his new monkey. We'll attach it at the hands around his neck and he'll walk around with it. It's a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e! I also caught a picture on my cell phone with him snuggling with it, but I can't upload it for some reason. Here are some other pictures I got at the house.

Random Thoughts of the Day

I haven't had much to blog about lately but there sure is a lot going on in our house and in my always-busy brain! I should probably save these for my 10 Things I Learned This Week, but I just wanted to blog.

  • This week Ethan surprised us with a new word - trash. After his breakfast I was cleaning up in the kitchen when he came up to me holding the empty oatmeal packet and said "twash". Both Chris and I looked at each other in amazement and opened the pantry door for him. He went in and tried to open the trash can. Wow! What they learn from watching us everyday! So now, I let him throw the trash away.
  • To add MORE to my addiction to the Twilight Saga, Summit (production company) has officially decided to make the fourth book, Breaking Dawn, into a movie! Yea! The movies just keep coming and I for one, among many others, am VERY excited!
  • Chris had his yearly review yesterday and had AWESOME reviews. Go Chris! He works so hard at Microsoft and even though I HATE when he has to work late some days, his hard work has paid off. A bonus will be coming our way very soon! Can we say yea for Christmas presents to give this year? God is so good!
  • Ethan has his ENT visit tomorrow so wish us luck. He's been great the past week so I think we should be in the clear for tubes ... for now. With the cold season coming up, I am so sure the ear infection is going to show back up.
  • I think fall is starting to peek it's little head out! I was driving around Charlotte this morning to go to a couple job sites and leaves were falling off the trees already. I AM SOOOOO EXCITED AND READY FOR FALL! It's my favorite season of all and I just cannot wait! So keep it coming leaves. Keep falling off!
  • Funny People with Adam Sandler is a BAD movie, so if you're interested in seeing it, don't. It was vulgar, filthy, and NOT funny. They should have named the movie Not So Funny People. It was 2 1/2 hours long, and it was 2 1/2 hours TOO long. I might have giggled three times.
